I stand here in the darkness
Aware of what I am
A child dependent on Your grace
Who's pushing at the dam
Holding back the flood of years
That formed Your wilful child
Into the selfish, loveless one
Who stands here so defiled.

Your light shows imperfections
Of which, I am assured
Will fade into the distant past
My sickness will be cured
I have a hope and longing
To be what You desire
A child of love, just like Your Son
Refine me in Your fire.
