The stomach reacts to foods differently when it’s empty. Some healthy foods shouldn’t be eaten when breaking a fast. They can cause diarrhea, acidity, stomach upsets, and so on.

Below are foods you should and shouldn’t eat on an empty stomach.

1. Eat eggs

Studies show that eating eggs for breakfast reduces total daily calorie intake. Feel free to boil or fry them.

2. Avoid tomatoes

Eating tomatoes on an empty stomach can increase acidity in the stomach due to the tannic acid they have. This will increase risk of gastric ulcers.

3.Eat oatmeal

Oatmeal will form a protective coating on the stomach thus protecting stomach walls from hydrochloric acid.

4. Avoid coffee

Drinking coffee or tea on an empty stomach can cause stomach upset and nausea. Coffee can also increase stomach acidity.

5. Eat watermelon

Watermelon will hydrate you due to high water content. It also has lycopene which benefits the heart, skin and blood glucose.

6. Avoid citrus fruits

Oranges, lemons and fruits may cause problems for people with inflamed lower esophagus.

7. Eat blueberries

Blueberries are a great for breaking a fast. They help boost metabolism, regulate blood pressure and improve memory.

8. Avoid sugary drinks

Sugary drinks (including fresh juice) are quickly broken down to blood glucose, therefore increasing hunger and cravings.

9. Eat nuts

Nuts lower risk of ulcers because they normalize pH levels in the stomach. They’ll also help you stay full for long.

10. Avoid carbonated drinks

Drinking carbonated drinks on empty stomach can reduce supply of blood in the stomach and damage mucous membranes.

11. Eat buckwheat

Buckwheat improves digestions and it’s also contains vitamins, iron and protein.

12. Avoid spices

Spices can promote production of stomach acid and damage gastric mucosa in an empty stomach.

13. Eat honey

Honey can improve bowel movement, digestion, immune system and help the body get rid of viruses and bacteria.

14. Avoid yogurt

The high acidity of an empty stomach reduces all the benefits of lactic acid bacteria in yogurt.

15. Eat cornmeal porridge

Cornmeal porridge helps eliminate heavy metal in cells and tissues. It also regulates intestinal microflora.
