On his trip to Europe, United States President Donald Trump scolded America’s allies for not paying their share of nato dues. However, it’s what Mr. Trump didn’t say that really set off Europe. His failure to mention America’s commitment to Article 5 of the nato agreement triggered an uncharacteristically strong response from German Chancellor Angela Merkel. “We Europeans truly have to take our fate into our own hands,” she said.
