Report: Donald Trump contemplating prosecuting Robert Mueller?

I love this place!” the President of the United States once observed of his residency at the White House — and who can blame him? With a booming economy, America’s enemies on the run, and the passage of a historic tax reform bill, President Donald Trump feels right at home as the commander-in-chief of the world’s only remaining superpower.
Trump’s optimistic disposition during his first State of the Union address wasn’t just for show, either. Not only is he pleased with his administration’s numerous accomplishments, but the president has reportedly told his friends and closest confidants that he is prepared to effectively end the investigation into his administration by discrediting Special Counsel Robert Mueller without actually firing him.

The Plan
This revelation is made clear in an anti-Trump hit-piece deploring “the value of his stewardship,” penned by NBC News reporter and liberal malcontent Howard Fineman just hours before the State of the Union address. Using a tactic all too common in the surreal Trump era of reporting, Fineman builds his entire narrative upon anonymous, uncorroborated sources.
Yet, if there is any truth to Fineman’s subjective brand of tabloid journalism, Americans can rest assured that the special counsel’s Russian-collusion probe is going absolutely nowhere. Citing “interviews with staff and friends who talk to [Trump] regularly,” Fineman reports that “Trump has adopted a two-track strategy to deal with the Mueller investigation.”

However, the first track of this suspected “strategy” requires no intervention and assumes that Trump is innocent. Fineman explains:
[Trump] keeps telling some in his circle that Mueller — any day now — will tell him he is off the hook for any charge of collusion with the Russians or obstruction of justice.
Few liberals consider that Trump may be overwhelmingly confident regarding the Russian interference probe because there was, in fact, no collusion. Yet Fineman chalks the president’s self-assurance up to an “un-Trumpian passivity and trust.”

“Moral high ground”
Still, if Mueller is successful in concocting some fabricated offense with which to charge the president, the appalling politicization within the Barack Obama-era FBI and Justice Department has empowered Trump to turn the tables on the special counsel and call into question the investigators’ impartiality. This represents a potent “insurance policy” for the president that would make FBI Section Chief Peter Strzok blush with envy.
Rather than fire the special counsel and risk infuriating his political rivals and provoking accusations of obstruction, Trump can now simply sit back and allow the evidence to discredit the partisan hit squad tasked with investigating his administration’s ties to Russia.
“I think he’s been convinced that firing Mueller would not only create a firestorm, it would play right into Mueller’s hands,” said a friend of the president, “because it would give Mueller the moral high ground.”

Apparently, Trump has even floated plans with advisors where Attorney General Jeff Sessions prosecutes Mueller and throws the entire special counsel into chaos. A close Trump advisor explained:
Here’s how it would work: “We’re sorry, Mr. Mueller, you won’t be able to run the federal grand jury today because he has to go testify to another federal grand jury.”
Any Truth?
So far, several reporters have questioned the authenticity of Fineman’s sources. While there are plenty of indictments that could be handed out within the special counsel’s investigative team — such as FBI lovers Peter Strzok and Lisa Page — for allowing their political allegiances to taint their objectivity, Mueller appears clean at this point.

Yet, this does not mean that the investigation itself is irreproachable. When uncorroborated opposition research funded by the president’s political rivals was used in concert with potentially unsubstantiated Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) warrants to build the investigation against Trump, all credibility is surrendered.
Then again, perhaps Trump knows something that the rest of America does not. Given the almost daily divulgement of scandals surrounding the FBI and DOJ, Mueller’s credibility is questionable at best.
