CANYON OF DOUBT

Canyon of doubt


This barren wasteland of my mind

Cries out for divine refreshment.

Strong pangs of spiritual hunger

Rip through my empty and tired soul.



This valley of shadows is far more

Fearsome than the others ever were

I try to focus on your light at the edge

Of the canyon yet despair clouds my vision.



When once again I start to see clearly I detect

Along the massive cliffs the spirits of fear,

Loneliness, and death - yet I can still hear

Your words echoing through the ravine.



Words that I have heard before and they

Are like the voices of dear friends from long ago.

I must now concentrate on passing through

This chasm and not lingering in it's darkness.



Nor can I allow its coldness to affect my heart

So I must wrap your cloak of grace around me

Just a little snugger as I put one foot in front of

The other as I traverse along your narrow trail.



This path is long and winding with many pitfalls

Both on the course itself and along its jagged sides.

But the treasure located at the end is well worth

The effort for it leads to life and eternity with you.
