Celebration

Sunset arrives daily across the high plains, eastern New Mexico's answer to Mardi Gras.

As I gaze across the open fields I can see the golden grass reaching for the heavens.

I am filled with promise and with awe.

When the air gets cool and the winds die down

God picks up his pallet and begins to create another masterpiece.

This work is by far his best.

The beauty is always repeated but never copied.

Even the colors change from day to day, a mixture of orange, red, gray, white, and blue.

As it heads west from the east, the sun seems to take its own sweet time, but at its finale

The colors burst forth and then just as quickly - they are gone.

The sounds of a New Mexico sunset are as unique as its design.

The day having reached its crescendo now breathes a deep sigh of relief.

Gone now are the sounds of the crop dusters as they swoop gracefully across the fields.

The distant sputtering of a tractor as it tills the land, and the roar of traffic on the highway

As the weary workers and travelers make their retreat are now gone.

There is a brief silence in those last few minutes of sunlight, it is a magic mist that I slowly inhale.

It is, as if nature and the elements actually take a minute to recognize God's work

A moment of silence to indicate final approval of his original plan.

While observing and marveling at this transition from chaos to order, I am filled with a sense of God's

Power of recuperation in my own life. I am once again filled with energy that I can use to carry on with my life.

At least enough energy to get through to another sunset and to another celebration.
