CNN attacks the national anthem (a new low!)

CNN’s ratings have seemed to sink lower every single month President Donald Trump has been in office — and their coverage sunk even lower this week.
Tuesday, a CNN commentator went as far as to suggest the national anthem was “problematic” and racist.

Angela Rye appeared with two other guests on CNN’s “The Lead with Jake Tapper” to discuss Trump’s disinvitation of the NFL champion Philadelphia Eagles. But for Rye, calling Trump racist wasn’t good enough.
The entire national anthem is a problem.
“We’re now going to end up in a midterm where we’re talking about the national anthem. The national anthem is problematic in and of itself. There is a second verse that Colin Kaepernick brought attention to that has yet to be discussed on broad platforms,” Rye said.
Rye doesn’t have her facts correct. What she was trying to refer is to the third stanza in the Star Spangled Banner: “No refuge could save the hireling and slave / From the terror of flight or the gloom of the grave.”

FLASHBACK: No, the national anthem isn’t racist.
Only the first stanza of the original Star-Spangled Banner poem is sung as our national anthem.
Regardless, the meaning of this line is debated by historians. It could be a reference to the Corps of Colonial Marines, a British unit made up of armed former-slaves that terrorized Americans (both white and black) living around the Chesapeake during the War of 1812. These Colonial Marine force were loathed by national anthem author Francis Scott Key because of they were notorious as brutal pillagers.
These Colonial Marines, by the way, were themselves fighting on behalf of an international slave empire at this time. The United Kingdom didn’t abolish slavery until 1833.
But history and context don’t matter to liberals. It’s a growing vocal movement among the left to have the national anthem replaced. Democrats say that by singing the Star Spangled Banner, one “literally celebrates the murder of African-Americans.”
The California chapter of the NAACP, for example, is demanding the Star-Spangled Banner be replaced as our national anthem.
FLASHBACK: Left-wingers DEMAND ‘change the racist national anthem!’
In her appearance on CNN, Rye said it’s the president’s fault that the national anthem is now a controversial issue.
“This isn’t about people who disagree with the partisan leanings of the president. There are Republicans who are my friends,” Rye said. “This is about someone who trafficked in bigotry, xenophobia, and racism from the very beginning of his campaign.”
