Atheists just got BAD news (ouch!)

The motto “In God We Trust” is something almost every American can agree on — and it’s officially not going away anytime soon.
A lawsuit filed by 29 atheists and atheist organizations demanding the phrase be removed from the U.S. dollar was destroyed in court on Tuesday.

And not only did these atheist groups lose… they lost big time.
The 8th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in St. Paul, Minnesota ruled 3-0 in favor of the phrase, but went further than other recent rulings. In a move the atheist’s lawyer called “utterly revolting,” Circuit Judge Raymond Gruender cited a 2014 Supreme Court decision and ruled the motto a “historical reminder” of America’s past.
In other words, the history of the term “In God We Trust” on United States money makes it more than just a First Amendment issue.
It’s official part of our country’s history — and it’s hard to overturn history as a First Amendment violation through the courts.

That’s not all. Gruender also ruled the use of “In God We Trust” on U.S. dollars does not constitute an establishment of religion, and said that the motto “comports with early understandings of the Establishment Clause” because the U.S. Constitution has always allowed the celebration of “our tradition of religious freedom.”
The ruling left the atheist groups furious.
“Michael Newdow, a lawyer for the plaintiffs, in an email called it ‘utterly revolting’ that ‘the history of governmental denigration of a suspect class should trump [the] principle; that neutrality be the ‘touchstone’ for analyzing claims under the First Amendment’s Establishment Clause,” Reuters reported Wednesday.
The motto “In God We Trust” was first put on U.S. coins in 1864, during the height of the country’s bloody Civil War.

As paper bills became more and more commonly used as the primary source of currency, the phrase was eventually added to U.S. dollars in the mid-20th century. In 1956, President Dwight Eisenhower signed into law a bill that made the phrase the United State’s national motto.
And it’s not going anywhere.
