Obama Allowed Iranian Spies to Infiltrate the Country – Congressman Warns Recent Arrests ‘ONLY TIP OF THE ICEBURG’

While the Obama administration focused its energies on what many believe to be an illegal Iran nuclear deal, agents of that country infiltrated our country “with impunity” according to one lawmaker.
Now, with the arrest of two Iranian agents alleged to have been running spy operations on U.S. soil, a leading lawmake r says neither the media nor others in Washington should be surprised. According to Rep. Peter Roskam (Rep. – IL) the two captured Iranian agents are just “the tip of the iceberg” when it comes to the Islamic Republic’s efforts to conduct intelligence operations in America.
The two Iranian’s who were arrested – Majid Ghorbani, an Iranian citizen and resident of California and Ahmadreza Mohammadi-Doostdar, a dual U.S.-Iranian citizen—were formally charged by the Trump Justice Department “with allegedly acting on behalf of the government of the Islamic Republic of Iran by conducting covert surveillance of Israeli and Jewish facilities in the United States, and collecting identifying information about American citizens and U.S. nationals who are members of the group Mujahedin-e Khalq (MEK).”
Mek is an Iranian opposition group that is pushing for regime change in the Islamic Republic.
Roskam says it is probable that Iran has placed multiple regime-tied agents in the United States. He said, “This is not a surprise and this is a result of the Iran regime getting financial support from the Obama administration in the Iran deal.”
One U.S. official, who agrees with Roskam’s assessment, told the Free Beacon that Iran has conducted a “vast espionage and information operations in the United States” with virtual impunity.
President Trump has warned since the presidential election that some of the windfall Iran got from the nuclear deal has been going into cyber operations aimed at destablizing the United States.
The arrest of the two recently charged Iranians denotes a significant shift in policy from the eight years of the Obama administration and could result in the capture of more agents.
Though they were bitter opponents during the Republican primaries Trump and Senator Marco Rubio (Rep. – FL) are in total agreement on what our country’s stance toward Iran should be. Following the most recent arrests, Rubio said, “I am deeply alarmed by the Justice Department’s new indictment against alleged Iranian agents.”
“Iran’s regime has sponsored terrorist attacks against Americans abroad and our allies, and may now be seeking to target American citizens, as well as Jewish or Israeli facilities, on U.S. soil.”
The reason there is no excuse for not seeing this formulating over the last 10 years or so is that Iran has publicly stated on multiple occasions that it has a vast espionage network that includes the United States.
Many, including the mainstream media, have dismissed such claims by Iran as posturing but Roskam says Iran should be taken at its word.
Michael Pregent, a former intelligence officer who worked to counter Iranian influence in the region told a House hearing committee this past April that Iran could easily launch strikes our soil through terrorists affiliated with Hezbollah.
Pregent said that Iranian funded Hezbollah fighters are as good or better at explosive devices than ISIS, they are better at assassinations and developing assassination cells.”
Rep. Peter King (Rep – NY), a member of the House Homeland Security Committee and chair of its subcommittee on counterterrorism and intelligence, said in April a chief concern is “Iranian support for Hezbollah.”
Others testifying before Congress agreed with King. “We do face a threat,” said Emanuele Ottolenghi, a senior fellow at the Foundation for Defense of Democracies who has been tracking Iran’s militant efforts for years. “Their networks are present in the United States.”
There is a direct connection between Trump’s determination to seal our porous southern border and the threat of Iranian fueled terrorist attacks. Hezbollah’s deep penetration throughout Latin America where it teams up with drug cartels and crime syndicates to finance its terror activities is most troubling. Hezbollah operatives have exploited loopholes in the U.S. immigration system and Democrats slow-walking any immigration reform from the White House.
One official said that Iran and Hezbollah are using the U.S. for trade-based and real estate-based money laundering.” They “come in through the front door with a legitimate passport and a credible business cover story.” Others come in through the back door at our southern border.
Unlike Obama, we now have a President that does more than talk.
