If the 2018 midterm elections are going to be a referendum on Trump, polls show that Democrats are in store for a big shock — and the latest numbers will have former President Barack Obama fuming.
According to the latest NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll, Trump’s approval rating has soared to 47 percent heading into the election, the highest ever rating for NBC News and The Journal.
“Obama’s approval rating was 45 percent around the same time in 2010, according to a similar NBC/Wall Street Journal poll taken in late October 2010,” The Hill reported on Sunday.
CNBC analysts predicted the so-called “blue wave” is likely to disappoint liberal voters.
There’s nothing indicating there will be a “big electoral wave,” Micah Robert, a partner Public Opinion Strategies, told CNBC. “Economic confidence that people have among a lot of groups is providing a buffer” for conservative candidates.

The stunning numbers have Democratic leadership already struggling to perform damage control. Democratic National Committee chairman Tom Perez told CNN this weekend that he doesn’t like using the term “blue wave.”
“We always knew that this election was going to be close. I don’t use the term ‘blue wave,'” Perez said. “I always talk about the need for the blocking and tackling. I always talk about the need for organizing to make sure you’re leading with your values. And that’s how we have been winning throughout this year and throughout 2017, is talking about those key issues that matter most.”
Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders, Socialist, said he has doubts that the Democrats can win.
“I know a lot of people talk about this blue wave. I don’t believe it,” Sanders told The Hill. “I happen to think that on election night you’re going to find a very close situation and maybe a handful of votes determining whether Democrats are gaining control of the House.”
