(NaturalNews) Vermont was not one of the 13 original British colonies that would go on to become the United States following the American Revolution, but it was close: the territory of Vermont was granted statehood on March 4, 1791, just a few years after the war ended. And while not an original U.S. state, it was inhabited mostly by former British subjects who, of course, were Caucasian.

Today, some academics and student "activists" are forcing white students to essentially apologize for being white. As reported by Campus Reform, the University of Vermont recently held a three-day retreat for white kids so they could "confront" their "white privilege," whatever that is.

Actually, the retreat was aimed at students who "self-identify as white," because, you know, today you can be any ethnicity or sex you want to be, no matter what genes you were born with. Talk about insanity.

The event, "Examining White Privilege: A Retreat for Undergraduate Students Who Self-Identify as White" occurred Nov. 13-15, and was, of course, "specifically for white students."

Shame on you for being white
According to the university website dedicated to the event:

Students will have the opportunity to:

conceptualize and articulate whiteness from a personal and systematic lens

recognize and understand white privilege from an individual experience

as well as the impact of white privilege on the UVM community and beyond

build a community of dialogue and support in taking action against racism

We will explore questions like:

What does it mean to be white? How does whiteness impact you?

What action steps can you take individually to interrupt racism?

How can we make UVM a more inclusive community?

Now, in this day and age of hyper-racial sensitivity and ethnic grouping – there are black campus groups and Asian campus groups and Latino campus groups and all sorts of legal, academic and congressional organizations all based on hyphenated ethnicity – perhaps some would support a "white organization" of some kind, just for balance. But this is probably not what those folks had in mind; white guilt is pervasive in all segments of politically correct society, so who would want to spend a weekend as a white guy or girl dealing with it all over again?

But some did, believe it or not. As reported by Todd Starnes at Fox News, attendees gave the retreat a rousing thumbs-up – apparently clueless to the shameful denigration they had just experienced.

'The abolition of whiteness'
It was a "great opportunity to talk about an identity that I had not previously felt equipped to comfortably discuss," said one self-identified Caucasian. Past attendees, the university website noted, also praised such events as a great way to experience "safe space."

Wait – isn't that only for minorities? Aren't minorities the only ones on American college campuses who should feel threatened and who experience dangers? That's what #BlackLivesMatter says.

Here's another aspect that ought to be explained, but hasn't been thus far, because no one at the university will answer the question: The event was billed as "free" to attendees – all expenses, including meals, were paid for. But who paid? If the university did, that means tax dollars were utilized for the event. Also, isn't it hypocritical to offer anything "free" to privileged white kids?

But the Caucasian-demeaning event wasn't enough for planners and the university. No. White kids were also encouraged by the school's Center for Cultural Pluralism to read various tomes, including The Invention of the White Race, White Privilege, Male Privilege in Race, Class, Gender, and The Abolition of Whiteness. That last one seems particularly ominous – is someone actually advocating abolishing white people? From what – society? From the earth? What?
