Water challenge

(NaturalNews) Sometimes simple cures are the best ones, and it doesn't get any simpler than water. Drinking water is a basic human necessity, and it has long been touted as a solution to a host of problems. Despite the common knowledge that drinking plenty of water can enhance well-being, many people still fail to drink enough of it. A new challenge is looking to change all of that by encouraging people to drink a gallon of water every day for 30 days to see how they feel.

If you've been thinking about trying the 30-day water challenge, a firsthand account that was recently posted on Thrillist.com might give you that final push you need to grab a gallon jug and give it a try.

In the piece, writer Wil Fulton shares his experience taking the Water Gallon Challenge. While he approached the challenge with a positive attitude, he appeared to be keeping his expectations low when he started.

He immediately noticed just how difficult it truly was to drink such a large amount of water. He said it actually took serious focus to reach the gallon goal, and he carried around a gallon jug with him at all times to ensure accuracy.

Five days into the challenge, he reported that he felt full all the time and was eating a lot less food as a result. He also marveled at how frequently he needed to urinate.

By the 10th day, he noticed that he was feeling more refreshed when he woke up and even found himself relying less on coffee to get through the day. He also reported shinier hair.

On day 15, he confidently declared that he had more energy. His sleep was becoming more consistent, and his evening runs suddenly felt a little faster. In addition, he said he felt less hot while sleeping.

When day 30 finally rolled around, he said that he felt good. While he acknowledges that different people probably have different needs when it comes to hydration, he thinks that everyone needs to drink more water.

Why is water so good for you?
The body's most important functions, such as digestion and circulation, need bodily fluids, which is why being hydrated is so vital. There are lots of ways our bodies can lose water, such as sweating, breathing and urinating, and drinking water can keep everything in balance. It also helps your kidneys do their job of eliminating waste and purifying your blood more efficiently.

If you are looking to increase your water intake, you might want to add some lemon to it to make it taste better and add even more benefits. Lemon water can help boost digestion and immunity while detoxifying your system. In addition, you'll get all those vitamins found in lemons, such as vitamin C, calcium, vitamin B, potassium and magnesium. It can also help cleanse and alkalize your body.

Those who are looking to lose weight will appreciate one of the benefits noted by Wil Fulton during his challenge: It makes you feel fuller. In addition, it can help hydrate the lining of your stomach, protecting it from irritation caused by acidic foods.

It's important to keep in mind, however, that despite its many benefits, it's possible to overdo it when it comes to drinking water. When drinking high amounts of water, you should space it evenly throughout the day so the levels of salt in your body do not drop to dangerously low levels.

If you are like most people, you probably don't drink enough water. Why not give the challenge a try and see how your body reacts?
