Good For Nothing

In the Bible we read how Jeremiah of old
Was given instructions by God and was told,
"Take your girdle to Euphrates and hide it,
In the hole of a rock, hide it inside it."

Surely this girdle, he could not wear.
For a very long time, he left it there.
God said, "To Euphrates you must return
And dig up the girdle for a lesson to learn."

The girdle was marred and dirty, you know.
God said, "I'll mar the pride of my people so,
For they do not obey; much evil they do.
Like the girdle, they're good for nothing too."

"Good for nothing!" Can this be the story
Of a life one has lived for his own glory?
When we live for ourselves and leave God out,
We are good for nothing without a doubt.

Remember the girdle and live your life
As one of God's servants, whatever the strife,
For after this life, there's one thing for sure,
Only what's done for Christ will endure.
