His Father's Face

Before Bill went away to college,
His father gave him the "talk".
"At a state college, it is hard, Son,
To remember your Christian walk."

"Son, there will be many temptations
That you will face on every side.
Always remember who you belong to,
And for your sin, Jesus Christ died."

"Don't disappoint your Heavenly Father
And don't disappoint your dad too.
Also, please think of your dear mother
And make her so very proud of you."

Bill took his Bible to college,
But he hid it under some books,
For when he started unpacking it,
His roommates gave him weird looks.

When his roommates said bad words
And told some filthy jokes too,
Bill just laughed as if to say,
"I approve of the things you do."

Then one night one of his roomates
Offered Bill a cold can of beer.
He placed it on his night stand
Beside his parents' portrait so dear.

Later, Bill started to open the beer,
But he eyed the photo of Dad's face.
Then he felt his daddy's presence,
Though he was not there in that place.

Giving the beer back to his roommate,
Bill said, "I'm sorry, Guy, I'm saved.
I know I have not acted like it,
But I'm sorry for the way I've behaved."

Bill also took out his Bible to read,
And he witnessed boldly for his Savior.
He chose to please Dad and mostly God.
He asked God to forgive his behavior.
