Public trust in Whole Foods shattered after exposure of artificial ingredients and unlabeled GMOs

(NaturalNews) The public's trust in Whole Foods took a serious dive after the chain was exposed for selling food with artificial ingredients and unlabeled GMOs, and it appears that the store's new offerings are not going to be enough to win people back.

The Whole Foods in Boulder, Colorado, has launched an all-vegan burger bar that sells burgers it claims are 100% vegan and free of soy, GMOs, and gluten. Of course, with the controversy still fresh in people's minds, a lot of shoppers will likely be wondering if these claims are actually trustworthy.

In the new Beyond Burger Bar, people can dress up patties made mostly of pea protein with toppings like vegan "cheese" slices and Sriracha. Meatless chicken tenders and a "fishless" filet sandwich are also on offer. Sweet potato hush puppies and millet "tater" tots are some of the side dishes available, and you can wash it all down with a coconut milk milkshake.

However, one part of the menu in particular stands out. A vaguely worded note at the bottom of the menu reads "Featuring local, non-GMO project verified ingredients whenever possible." The menu fails to state what kind of food is served when this is not possible, however.

Comments show deep distrust remains
A quick glance at some of the comments the story about the new burger bar has attracted on True Activist shows that the public is not quite ready to forgive and forget.

One commenter asks if this is the same Whole Foods that lied about offering non-GMO products. Another commenter says she stopped shopping there, calling it "phoney and over priced".

Yet another commenter said Whole Foods lost her business once their lies about being non-GMO came to light, and she also calls them out for siding with Monsanto in the fight to axe GMO labeling throughout the country.

Whole Foods was one of several companies, including Smucker's Stonyfield and Organic Valley, that took part in brokering backroom legislative deals that would get rid of mandatory GMO labels in food throughout the country and prevent state legislation in Vermont that would mandate such labels.

New documentary exposes the truth about Whole Foods
The deception by Whole Foods is so widespread that Mike Adams, the Health Ranger, has made it the subject of his new mini-documentary. The 18-minute video, called "The Whole Truth About Whole Foods," takes a look at the chain's shocking practice of purposely misleading customers into believing that their stores do not sell any products that contain heavy metals, pesticides or GMOs.

Adams would know – he has personally tested foods bought from the store for toxins and heavy metals. He found not only glyphosate, but also other pesticides and heavy metals. He criticizes the chain for charging a premium for its foods based on their "clean" status when they are not nearly as pure as they claim. In fact, he points out that many of them come from the exact same wholesalers that use pesticides and GMOs and supply produce to other stores.

The chain boasts that it sells "Nothing artificial, ever", but the truth is that it still sells unlabeled artificially engineered foods. The worst part is that many health-conscious consumers still believe they can go to their local Whole Foods store and buy whatever they want without having to worry about what it might contain. It turns out that the only real way to be certain of the origin of your food is to grow it yourself.
