Failed news company Al Jazeera now peddling Monsanto propaganda

Al Jazeera

(NaturalNews) If you wanted to fail in media post-9/11 America, probably one of the best ways to achieve that would be to have your network funded by the oil-rich dictatorial sheikdom of Qatar (pronounced CUT-ter), a nation that also lavishly funds Islamic terrorist and extremist groups like Hamas and the Muslim Brotherhood.

Another way to turn off a massive and growing segment of the American viewing public would be for the same network to get in bed with a serial environmental offender, namely Monsanto, the world's largest maker of genetically modified seeds and foods.

In a recently published interactive on GMO eggplants being grown in Bangladesh, the Qatar-owned Al Jazeera published what amounted to an uncritical puff piece promoting genetically modified foods as safe.

While admitting that GMO crops are indeed controversial, the network's story goes on to claim that "scientific evidence to support" claims that they are harmful to humans and the environment "has not been found."

That is simply not true.

The facts are against Monsanto, no matter what the paid 'academic' shills say
As noted by Natural News founder/editor Mike Adams, the Health Ranger and author of the new blockbuster science book Food Forensics, a landmark study published in 2012 found that rats fed GM corn grew horrifying tumors, and that 70 percent of the GM corn-consuming female rats died early.

In addition to eating GM corn, researchers found that consuming even trace amounts of glyphosate – the primary ingredient in Monsanto's popular Roundup herbicide, which has also been linked to the rampant growth of untreatable superweeds – caused rats to develop horrifying tumors, widespread organ damage and led to premature death.

At the time of the French study, it was hailed as "the most thorough research ever published into the health effects of GM food crops and the herbicide Roundup on rats," according to a British grocery trade journal.

The tumors the rats grew were so large that they caused difficulty breathing.

The Caen University study, led by Dr. Gilles-Eric Seralini, a molecular biologist and critic of GM technology, and published in U.S. journal Food and Chemical Toxicology, found:

-- Between 50 and 80 percent of female rats developed very large tumors by the 24th month of their lives, with some animals growing as many as three tumors;

-- Just 30 percent of the control rats developed any tumors;

-- As many as 70 percent of females died prematurely compared to just 20 percent of the control group;

-- Tumors in rats of both sexes that were fed GM corn were two to three times bigger than control group animals;

-- Large tumors began to appear in females at around seven months, compared to 14 months in the control group.

The research team said the tumors became so large they were "deleterious to health ... ."

Another major problem with the Al Jazeera Bangladesh GM eggplants is that the network's journalists left out the fact that, while they proclaimed the crops a success, earlier reports noted that it was in fact an abject failure.

Not the work of a reputable news network
Finally, the network's journos relied on discredited "experts" who are really just paid shills for Monsanto – in particular, University of Florida "scientist" Kevin Folta. He has been exposed as having accepted thousands of dollars from Monsanto to conduct "research" favorable to the massive biotech company.

And yet, Al Jazeera lets Folta describe himself as "non-affiliated with industry," even quoting him as saying, "I'm no big corporate friend. I look at the data, and we make the decisions. We try to distill, for the public, what does the science tell us? Frequently it tells them a story they don't want to hear."

The AJ piece makes no mention of the $25,000 Folta has taken from Monsanto, or the fact that he told the company, "I'm glad to sign on to whatever you like, or write whatever you like."

Clearly, this isn't the work of a reputable network, and given its owners' ties to terrorism, it's no wonder it has already shuttered its American-based TV network.
