NYC pharmacy charging men higher prices as a 'gender inequality tax'

(NaturalNews) It's bad enough that the Leftist-driven "gender equality" issue is a political agenda based on an phony premise - that in American today, women are still being systematically discriminated against in the workplace and elsewhere. Now, it's being taken to an expensive extreme that smacks of legitimate gender discrimination - against men

Breitbart News is reporting that a pharmacy in New York City has actually imposed a so-called "man tax" to battle imagined gender inequality and also as a way of battling GOP presidential nominee and Big Apple native Donald J. Trump.

The Manhattan pharmacy – Thompson Chemists – has begun to charge all male customers a 7-percent "man tax" as a way of protesting against alleged gender-based inequality and as a political ploy to support Trump's rival, Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton.

Only a leftist progressive can justify discriminating against a gender as a way of protesting what he/she views as gender discrimination.

The concept is the brainchild of pharmacy owner Jolie Alony, who says the man tax is nothing more than leveling the field that she believes is slanted against women. It is also her way of making a statement of support for Hillary Clinton and the Democratic Party – which didn't do anything of note for so-called 'gender inequality' when the party held Congress during President Obama's first two years in office.

"We thought it'd be a great idea with all the political things going on – with Clinton being such a woman and the other guy and his womanizing," she said.

So, there are two signs posted up front – a pink sign that says, "New Store Policy: All Female Customers Shop Tax Free," and a blue one that reads, "All Male Customers Are Subject to a 7% Man Tax."

In addition, she also referred to the so-called "pink tax," which is what women are allegedly charged when they buy certain female-oriented products or services like dry cleaning, personal care products and automobile maintenance. That, along with alleged income disparity, she said, places an undue financial burden on women which she believes needs to be addressed.

"We wanted to share that women deserve to get a break, and men deserve to be charged 7 percent more," Alony said, without offering any justification. "Women are spending more, in general and we make less, so we deserve to have a break."

Not all women agree. In an October 2014 column for USA Today, Genevieve Wood – a senior contributor to The Daily Signal, says the common narrative used by activists that "women make 77 cents to every dollar men make" is a fabrication. Also, for every 100 degrees men earned in college in 2014, women earned 140. And, she added, women control half of all private wealth in the U.S., as well as about 80 percent of household spending decisions.

"That's girl power," she wrote.

But such true advancements by women are largely overshadowed by drones like Alony and hack "researchers" with a political agenda. For example, in 2015, Brietbart News reported, the New York City Department of Consumer Affairs published a study claiming that, on average, women spent 7 percent more on products marketed to them than equivalent products marketed to men (which helps explain Alony's 7 percent tax). It is clear from the outset that the "gender pricing" study's authors already had a preconceived notion of their 'findings,' based on the title alone: "From Cradle to Cane: The Cost of Being a Female Consumer," with the letter "o" in "cost" and "consumer" substituted with a pink universal symbol for women.

As for Alony's initiative, she says she's received dramatically mixed results. While some couples have found humor and entertainment in the signage, others have become upset, "saying, 'F**k you,' 'You're being a sexist,' and to get a lawyer," she said.

And actually, political 'statement' or not, Alony appears to be in violation of NYC's Human Rights Law, which forbids discrimination based on, among other things, gender. Charging men more money just because they're men seems to fit that description.
