Trump bans transgenders from joining military

President Donald Trump said Wednesday he would reverse former President Barack Obama’s decision to allow transgender people to serve in the U.S. military “in any capacity,” citing “tremendous medical costs and disruption.”

The decision sent the mainstream media into a frenzy of anger.

But there’s something the media won’t tell you: How insane Obama was to allow transitioning people into the military in the first place.

This is not a matter of social standings and political correctness — this is a matter of combat effectiveness.

There are a host a reasons that people are barred from joining the U.S. military.

For example, the military doesn’t allow those who have diabetes to join — not because they’re weak, but because there’s no guarantee that medication could be brought to the front line in a time of need.

It’s the same with flat feet. Yes, there are special boots… but what if a person with flat feet is in a combat situation and ‘special boots’ aren’t available?

Given the chaos of combat, that situation isn’t just likely to happen — it’s almost certain. And a solider that cannot march is a solider who cannot fight.

A solider that cannot fight is a burden on their unit.

In a situation where every single person is important for survival, lives are in jeopardy when soldiers cannot perform their basic primary function without support.

Every year, hundreds — if not thousands — of potential soldiers, sailors, airmen and Marines are regularly discharged during basic training because previously undiagnosed asthma appears that could require an inhaler in the future.

Not will. Could.

Whether they need an inhaler or not is unimportant – what is important is the possibility that in combat, they might.

What, then, does the military do with a solider that requires over 12-months of surgery and a lifetime of special medication?

For decades before Obama, they were given the medical care they needed — but were also given a medical discharge for being unable to serve.

There’s no dishonor in it, of course. But if a soldier cannot serve, they’re simply no longer kept in the military.

A few years ago, against the protests of our military leadership, that rule changed.

At Obama’s order, if a sailor or airmen was diagnosed with flat feet, they were given their walking papers. But if they were diagnosed with gender dysphoria, they were removed from their unit and given a year’s worth of extremely expensive counseling, hormone treatments, and surgeries.

The average enlistment in the military is four years. That means the U.S. government was allowing soldiers to become a burden on their units for 25% of the average enlistment contract.

That exception was put into place by Obama solely as political theater to drum up support for his base.

But the U.S. military isn’t a political force.

They’re not designed to include everyone, and it’s not everyone’s right to join.

Folks, despite what the media says, this isn’t about mental health or transgendered people being misunderstood (or hated).

It’s a matter of common sense.

It’s about the special lifetime supply of hormone medication and expensive medical procedures needed, and the United States military trying to balance all that while also maintaining a high level of force readiness.

Liberals may not like it, but the military is designed for one purpose: To kill bad guys.

That’s it.

In the service, no one cares what’s between your legs… as long as you can do the work.

But you must able to fully contribute to the military’s singular cause — to engage and destroy the enemies of the United States.

If the possibility exists that a solider cannot do so — either because of asthma or gender dysphoria or diabetes — they could get a lot of their fellow Americans killed.

The president said the military “must be focused on decisive and overwhelming victory and cannot be burdened with the tremendous medical costs and disruption that transgender in the military would entail.”

Trump is right.

There’s no room for social experimentation or political theater in the military.

War isn’t a place to play nice. It’s not the place to advance the cause of social justice.

War is a dirty, bloody, and nasty place.

What Trump did today was the only way to give these fine men and women their best chance to achieve victory.
