49 Though God may Let a Kingdom Rise Q2:258

 

Though God may let a kingdom rise

And give kings something to surmise,

Their power is just a rope to hang

Themselves with a sigh or a bang.

 

Turn eye on Abraham who stood

Before a king whose pride then would

Ask him about his God, and he

Said he gives live and death’s decree.

 

In arrogance the king replied

That he gives life and death beside.

Of course that word was not quite true,

Death-giving was his only cue.

 

But Abraham answered him well,

My God also by mighty spell

Makes sun to rise up in the east,

So make it rise by west at least.

 

So arrogance of kings and men

Is silenced by both word and pen,

And those who ridicule faith then

Are without guidance once again.

 

I crave life when the sun comes up

Upon the lake with golden cup,

And seek life while its rays descend

Upon the blooms I fail to tend.

 

The fireweed that my pity let

Take over my garden is set

To live and live again as I

Seek flames of life beneath the sky.

 

May the life-giving God I trust

Raise up my body from the dust

And like the dandelion I love

Below, I’ll praise the One above.
