Life in the Past Lane


Salvation you've accepted, forgiveness at last

But the enemy reacts with snares from the past.

A new creation in Christ, atonement received

The great liar now revealed - I won't be deceived.

Repentance and submission, the blotter is now clear

Satan uses condemnation to try and keep me in fear.

Prayer and praise are the tools that I have on hand

To keep myself anchored to the Son of Man.

Once forgiven and no turning back

I have to be on guard for the enemy's attack.

If God can forgive me for sins from my past

Then I have to forgive myself or the anointing won't last.

No more self-punishment and no more regret

Since I've been forgiven I must never forget

That if the father of all lies can not trap me in sin

He will snare me in things that I might do again.

I can't dwell on events or the wrong things that I've done

I must ask for forgiveness and claim the victory that's been won.

Fiery darts of despair and arrows of deceit, schemes of the devil to keep me in shame

I must cry out to the Father and to his son who died to take all of my blame.

I try to stand a vigilant watch and never give in

To temptation or carelessness which causes me to sin.

Strengthening my mind and putting the Word in my heart

So that when the enemy attacks I'll be ready to do my part.
