Europe’s Presence in Cuba Is a Dangerous Threat to America

Geographically, the U.S. possesses many enormous advantages, but there is a weak spot.

The island of Cuba is vital to United States security. Half of U.S. seaborne trade passes through the Gulf of Mexico, and Cuba dominates the mouth of this gulf. A foreign power that controls Cuba could devastate the U.S. economy by restricting U.S. access to oceanic shipping. This reality makes Cuba’s current outreach to the European Union a strategic threat to the United States of America.
The European Union’s top diplomat, Federica Mogherini, made her third diplomatic visit to Cuba in January 2018. She reconfirmed “the strong EU-Cuban relationship.” And she laid the groundwork for an EU declaration condemning the U.S. embargo against Cuba. If the EU’s outreach to Cuba progress to military cooperation, Europe would have the ability to besiege the U.S.
You need to watch what is happening in Cuba. The island is America’s geographic weak spot.
America’s Geographic Challenge
The United States is the most blessed nation on Earth. It is protected in the west by the world’s largest ocean and the Rocky Mountains. It is protected in the north by the arctic tundra and the friendly nation of Canada. It is protected in the east by the world’s second largest ocean and the Appalachian Mountains. And it is protected in the south by the Chihuahuan Desert. Amidst all these fortifications is the Mississippi Basin, the world’s largest contiguous expanse of arable land.
The Mississippi Basin is the heartland of the United States and the key to its dominance over North America. About 57 percent of U.S. seaborne exports flow out of this basin to international markets via the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean Sea. Since Cuba lies between southern Florida and the Yucatan Peninsula, it is the geographic gatehouse between this heartland and the outside world.
As Peter Zeihan wrote for Stratfor in 2008, “A hostile power in Cuba could fairly easily seal both the Straits of Florida and the Yucatan Channel, reducing the Gulf of Mexico to little more than a lake.”
The threat of a naval blockade against the Mississippi Basin is why the U.S. took Cuba from Spain in 1898. And it is why the U.S. tried to oust the Soviet Union from Cuba in 1962. A hostile foreign power in Cuba could block ships from Houston, Port Arthur, New Orleans, Mobile and Tampa.
What Does the Bible Say?
Dozens of biblical verses promise blessings to Israel for obedience to God’s laws and warn of curses for disobedience. Plain Truth editor in chief Herbert W. Armstrong explained in his book The United States and Britain in Prophecy that these verses apply primarily to the U.S. and Britain.
In one prophecy, God likens Israel to a hedged vineyard, protected on all sides. The United States has been hedged, north, south, east and west by nonthreatening nations and geographic fortifications. But because of the sins of the people, God warns, “I will tell you what I will do to my vineyard: I will take away the hedge thereof, and it shall be eaten up; and break down the wall thereof, and it shall be trodden down” (Isaiah 5:5).
