(NaturalNews) To millions of younger Americans, the unrest and chaos gripping many U.S. college and university campuses seem like spontaneous responses to what, on the surface, appears to be systematic, institutionalized racism. The activists they see demanding "safe spaces" and "social justice" look and sound sincere. Complaints that they are victims of racial epithets and other acts of violence ring true.

To older Americans, what is taking place on today's college campuses looks very familiar. They hark back to another tumultuous time at American universities: the 1960s and early 1970s, when the same charges were made, the same claims of aggrieved status aired, and similar demands for "change" and special dispensations made.

So similar, in fact, that the liberal editors at the Washington Post recently compared the two periods as ongoing progress towards improving "civil rights."

But the two periods aren't the same. In the 1950s and 60s, when the real civil rights movement began, blacks and other minorities remained, on many levels, second class citizens. Protests for equal rights were well-intended and sincere. The leading African-American activists at the time, like Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., wanted nothing less than equality as it was promised by the Constitution – and nothing more.

Today, many attendees at campus protests are coerced with threats of ostracizing and even violence. The list of "demands" is nonsensical and lacking in seriousness. Activist leaders are not seeking parity – they have that already – they are seeking special policy carve-outs and benefits above and beyond those offered to white students.

The 'list of demands' ought to tell you all you need to know about this 'movement'
Consider this list of "Black Lives Matter"-inspired "demands" that have been echoed at the University of Missouri, University of Kansas, Yale University, and elsewhere recently (from here and here):

– Free college, as in, never paying for a higher education (though obviously somebody will pay – can you guess who?);

– Essentially ban student debt (presumably from all causes) by cancelling it;

– $15 an hour minimum wage for all (inexperienced, unlearned) campus workers;

– That white college administrators, in some cases publicly, acknowledge their "white privilege" (whatever that is);

– That anyone who doesn't conform to the Black Lives Matter (and other Marxist) ideology, be removed from positions of power in student bodies or from their academic leadership positions, thereby ruining their lives (here and here);

– On the MU campus, activists want school administrators to fully adopt a list of demands issued back in 1969 by a group known as the Legion of Black Collegians,which include black hiring quotas, guaranteed higher salaries, giving minorities more say over hiring policies, the formation of a black-dominated "council" to hear complaints from other "blacks," "third-world students" and other "non-white" students;

– The adoption of mandatory "comprehensive racial awareness and inclusion curriculum" that is "vetted, maintained, and overseen by a board comprised of students, staff and faculty of color."

And so on.

Also on the MU campus, agitators – no doubt some of whom were paid to "protest" – demanded that then-MU president Tim Wolfe (who has since resigned under pressure), "admits his gross negligence, allowing his driver to hit one of the demonstrators, consenting to the physical violence of bystanders, and lastly refusing to intervene when Columbia Police Department used excessive force with demonstrators."

This is all about 'getting even'
Except that, judging from video evidence, none of that actually happened.

But the truth was long ago abandoned, if it was ever really sought. What's notable is that all of the incidents of alleged injustice – perhaps some real, but many made up, as Natural News editor Mike Adams reported – that have suddenly begun to occur on American campuses all over the country, simultaneously, and all with the same demands, are taking place on college campuses run by the same socialist/liberal/progressives to which these activists and students claim to be ideologically aligned.

That's about the best example of sweet irony you'll ever find.

As an aside, the "second battle for civil rights" is just beginning. Expect it to intensify during Obama's final year in office. And expect him to egg it on as well.

Because none of this is really about "justice." It's about getting even.
