Letter sent to Trump Jr. had white powder – and a written threat

Donald Trump has been the target of hatred and vitriol since well before he won the 2016 presidential election. In addition to the barrage of death threats against the president himself, his family has also become a target of disturbed Americans who have been fueled by the endless negative political coverage of the president and his administration.
Earlier this week, Donald Trump Jr.’s wife, Vanessa, opened an envelope sent to her in the mail which contained a suspicious white substance and a letter. On Tuesday, it was confirmed that the letter consisted of threatening remarks directed toward Trump Jr.

The president’s son and his wife are safe, but this may be more common moving forward.
‘This is Why People Hate You’
The New York Post reported the contents of the letter that was postmarked in Boston and sent to the Upper East Side home of Trump Jr.’s mother-in-law, Bonnie Haydon, mid-morning Monday. Because it would have been inspected by security, the message was not shipped directly to the couple’s Manhattan residence.

What did the letter say?
“You are an awful person. This is why people hate you. You are getting what you deserve. So shut the f— up,” the culprit wrote.

Soon after receiving the note, his wife transferred the document and the powder to a plastic bag. The white substance thankfully turned out to be cornstarch.
Vanessa called 911 and was immediately brought to a local hospital as a precaution. She returned to the building hours later with one of her children – the children were not present when it was received.
The U.S. Secret Service confirmed that it is investigating the matter:
The Secret Service and our law enforcement partners in New York City are investigating a suspicious package addressed to one of our protectees received today in New York, New York. This is an active investigation and we cannot comment any further.
