Something to Ponder

Usefulness or Relationship?

Do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rather rejoice because your names are written in heaven. —Luke 10:20

Jesus Christ is saying here, “Don’t rejoice in your successful service for Me, but rejoice because of your right relationship with Me.” The trap you may fall into in Christian work is to rejoice in successful service— rejoicing in the fact that God has used you. Yet you will never be able to measure fully what God will do through you if you do not have a right-standing relationship with Jesus Christ. If you keep your relationship right with Him, then regardless of your circumstances or whoever you encounter each day, He will continue to pour “rivers of living water” through you (John 7:38). And it is actually by His mercy that He does not let you know it. Once you have the right relationship with God through salvation and sanctification, remember that whatever your circumstances may be, you have been placed in them by God. And God uses the reaction of your life to your circumstances to fulfill His purpose, as long as you continue to “walk in the light as He is in the light” (1 John 1:7). Our tendency today is to put the emphasis on service. Beware of the people who make their request for help on the basis of someone’s usefulness. If you make usefulness the test, then Jesus Christ was the greatest failure who ever lived. For the saint, direction and guidance come from God Himself, not some measure of that saint’s usefulness. It is the work that God does through us that counts, not what we do for Him. All that our Lord gives His attention to in a person’s life is that person’s relationship with God— something of great value to His Father. Jesus is “bringing many sons to glory…” (Hebrews 2:10).

Luke 10:19-24 - I have given you authority to walk all over snakes and scorpions. You will be able to destroy all the power of the enemy. Nothing will harm you. But do not be glad when the evil spirits obey you. Instead, be glad that your names are written in heaven." At that time Jesus was full of joy through the Holy Spirit. He said, "I praise you, Father. You are Lord of heaven and earth. You have hidden these things from the wise and educated. But you have shown them to little children. Yes, Father. This is what you wanted. "My Father has given all things to me. The Father is the only one who knows who the Son is. And the only ones who know the Father are the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to make the Father known." Then Jesus turned to his disciples. He said to them in private, "Blessed are the eyes that see what you see. I tell you, many prophets and kings wanted to see what you see. But they didn't see it. They wanted to hear what you hear. But they didn't hear it."

Shirley Borror: Shirley called in to the office to order some books. What a blessing it was to hear Shirley’s testimony about how Larry Wilson impacted her life. She grew up as a preacher’s kid and as an adult after hearing Larry Wilson speak, she met God for the first time in her life. Larry’s teaching had such an impact on Shirley and her husband, they hosted meetings for Larry to teach at. One time Shirley and her husband were passing out flyers to one of these meetings during a blizzard. They were on either side of the street and could not see each other. They had to call out to each other to make sure the other was ok!! Such dedication to make sure Larry’s teaching had a far reach.
Frances Craw: Frances is healing very well. After 5 weeks in a nursing home, she was most anxious to go home. Her only dilemma was finding someone that could live with her and help her when she needed since she is almost completely blind. The Lord certainly provided a lady that was able to do just that!! Not only is her live-in helper a blessing for Frances but Frances is also able to share Bible teaching with her!

Betty: Please pray for Betty’s family. They are in desperate circumstances and her daughter is homeless.
Evangelist Moses: Please pray for Moses’ ministry efforts as he and his group minister in Zimbabwe.
Update on Don Ludgate from Norma Muth: “I was waiting to hear from his son this morning but what I do know is he survived the surgery and wasn't paralyzed. There was a fear that moving him could paralyze him.” Please pray for his recovery. Thank you to everyone that has been praying for and asking about him.
